Granite is both a polymineralic and an abyssal rock. It is formed in the process of crystallization of magma deep within the earth, under considerable pressure. Granite is more durable than marble, when it comes to particularly adverse atmospheric conditions and abrasion. On the other hand, it is a slower heat conductor.  As regards their origin and their properties, marble and granite differ enormously. Despite being the most popular couple among natural stones, they are not related. Being a metamorphic rock, marble is formed through the metamorphism of limestone and dolomite. Consequently, marble is a very hard material. Through the process of polishing, marble gets a glossy finish. Another of marble’s characteristics is its low absorption. Thus, despite being durable, marble is less frost proof, abrasion resistant and more liquid absorbent than granite.
