Sandstone as the material for elevations

Sandstone is natural stone frequently used in the building industry. It is solid sedimentary rock of fine-grained structure. For years, sandstone has been used to erect buildings and other constructions as well as to make sculptures. It is relatively soft, owing to which its processing is not very demanding. It comes in interesting colours and has good technical parameters. It is ideally suited for elevations both for traditional and modern houses.

The characterization of sandstone

Sandstone is characterized by fine-grained structure and characteristic warm colour. It has got porous surface, so it needs to be impregnated. After such a treatment, pores are sealed thus preventing dirt from penetration into the structure, and making elevation look perfect.

Sandstone is formed in the process of cementing loose sediments (sand), through the process of precipitation of the minerals from the porous layers of rock, which are contained in the fluids floating around the rock. Such a process is called cementation. Sandstone is relatively soft and easy to be processed. However, when buying this material, you should pay attention to its resistance to abrasion and to its degree of water absorption. There two types of sandstone on the market available: the harder ones and the softer ones. The harder version, the more suitable it is for elevations.

What are the most popular elevations made of sandstone?

Sandstone elevations can differ from each other in terms of appearance and style. You can find very minimalist and modern designs made from special slabs cut from sandstone, and elevations inspired by traditional architecture made from split sandstone. Elevations made of split sandstone look incredibly interesting. Because of its colour and texture, sandstone goes well with wood, metal and glass. For this reason, it is frequently used to produce elevations in modern buildings. Its intriguing form ideally enriches simple modern constructions. Sandstone, as a very soft material, is easy to be cut and as such can be used to create even the most original shapes.
